Welcome to my aviation page! I have been passionate about flying since my first discovery flight at 17 years old when the PIC let me take the controls. I recognize that pilot moms have a unique set of circumstances to deal with when breastfeeding their little ones and getting back into the cockpit. This is my space to combine my two passions- breastfeeding and flying - into a service that helps others moms. Pilot moms have a lot to think about when taking the controls, from pumping schedules to childcare, to night feedings, and partner schedules. I can customize a feeding plan that allows you to put your mind at ease when returning to work.
Pregnancy and Flying
While it is mostly safe to fly while pregnant, there are some considerations to think about in terms of safety. Fatigue and oxygen levels can change your reaction times as a PIC. It is also important to consider your risk level for things like hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and blood clots, all of which could be affected by changes in altitude and pressure. Your flight time can be reduced by something as minor as your growing belly affecting the range of motion of the yoke. Plan for exercise, good hydration, and lots of rest during your pregnancy!
breastfeeding and Postpartum care
It is strongly encouraged to meet with a lactation consultant before you give birth in order to be well-educated and prepared. During this time it is important to rest, bond with your baby, and establish a strong milk supply. Enjoy your time on the ground getting to know your little one. Your birth and postpartum period can greatly affect your mental and physical health, as well as the health of your baby. So much happens during the first three months of life, and I'm here to walk you through every step along the way!
returning to work
Having a good plan in place is crucial to making your transition back into the cockpit smooth for everyone. Pumping, time away from your baby, overnight stays, and company policy are all important considerations. Many families are two-pilot households, which adds a scheduling challenge. I encourage you to reach out for support during this time to avoid stress. It is especially critical to keep your milk supply strong during flights away from your baby!
